Kimberly Ulrich is an amazing human who has fallen on hard times. As a professional nurse for 45 years, Kimberly dedicated herself to the caring of others. She chose a life of health and mindfulness, raising her children to be strong, giving, independent and caring, just like she is. Kimberly has been a source of constant support to her daughter and granddaughter, selling her family home to downsize and live next door to them so that she could always be available when they needed her. Kimberly is the person who makes and keeps ziplock bags of protein bars and feminine care products on her person at all times, so she can hand them to any homeless person in need any time. Kimberly has spent her whole life giving herself to those in need: family, strangers, anyone who needed support and care, Kimberly was there for them. Now Kimberly is in need, and you can help. Last fall Kimberly had a stroke and follow up tests discovered a large brain aneurism. Because Kimberly felt she had so much life left to live and had only just begun to consider retiring from her physically demanding job of a home caregiver, she decided to have the very invasive surgery of an aneurism removal. The chances were good that she would come out if it without the emotionally paralyzing crapshoot of living with a brain anuerism that could burst at any time. Unfortunately, the worst case scenario played out and she suffered a massive stroke during the procedure. Kimberly lost her ability to speak and swallow as well as the ability to use her right side. She has been slowly battling back and can now eat solids and she’s relearning to speak. Her right side has been slower to come and she is wheelchair bound for now. But her personality remains joyfully intact! Even through this ordeal, she has managed to maintain the levity and humility necessary to surmount unexpected tragedy. Her caregivers continually consider her their favorite patient. The unexpected costs—emotionally to her family, physically for Kimberly, and monetarily for all of them— are overwhelming. The tiny home she moved into to be closer to her daughter needs major renovation to accommodate for her recovery: doors widened, bathroom reworked, walls eliminated, ramps installed. She will also need a new bed, a wheelchair and some form of in-home care in addition to her family. In-home care that, even though she’s been a nurse for decades, her insurance doesn’t provide and she can’t afford. In times of difficulty, sadness and stress, Mr Rodgers reminded us to look for the helpers. Kimberly, her whole life, has been that kind of helper. Please help us help this helper. Kimberly needs you! Any amount you can give is appreciated, there is no amount that is too big or too small! Thank you in advance, we cannot wait time share with you how your contributions help transform kimberly’s home and life to help her live comfortably while she recovers. Thank you ❤️
