When most men turn 64 they plan to fish or play golf on their vacation - but not Brian Sato! This long time Maui resident and good Samaritan has committed himself to make a 12 day, 165 mile journey on foot around the entire island of Maui! All in an effort to raise funds to support for The Maui Farm. The walk is tentatively scheduled for April 14 - 25 (Covid 19 might have other plans). With your help, Brian can meet his goal!
The Maui Farm is a safe haven for women and their children. At The Maui Farm, people of all ages discover the delights of gardening, meeting and care for farm friendly animals and learn about how to care for themselves. Here they can escape abusive relationships and other traumatizing situations. Here they can find support and empowerment. Here their children can play feeling safe and cared for. One step at a time, doing similar walks around the island of Maui, Brian has successfully raised money for organizations in the past - such as Hale Makua, The Haku Baldwin Center and Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike. This will be his fourth walk, and this time he will be joined by fellow walker Ali Cotsoradis. Together, they plan on starting their walks each day at about 4:30 to 5am and walk 12 to 15 miles a day to pre arranged campsites. With the assistance of volunteers, their equipment and food will be transported ahead to each campsite.
Brian is a reliable and devoted friend with a kind and caring heart and doesn't hesitate to help someone in need nor to take action to help preserve the island. He is very humble and not used to asking for help. For the past 11 years, he has coordinated getting gifts for residents of Hale Makua. Over the past 10 years he has planted a variety of native species in the Auwahi Dry Forest. He has volunteered as a staff member with Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commision on eight island restoration trips. Every year, he helps assemble bikes for underprivileged kids, and continues to be deeply involved in on-going beach clean-ups. Currently, Brian is the Facities Maintenance Specialist at The Maui Farm.
Allocation of funds:
$10,000 will go towards The Maui Farm.
$500 will go towards the walk.(equipment, camping permits,gas, food, water and ice)
