As many of you know, my daughter, Maya Genson, was hospitalized on January 16 with a ruptured appendix. What a curve ball! It was a massive, potentially deadly illness but we are grateful to Dr. Dennis Chernin for sending her to the ER and to the amazing team at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor for her skilled, compassionate care. We are hoping she will be released Friday, the 25th, with recovery to continue at home.
A little about Maya:
1. the cutest baby ever
2. wonderful big sister to Sam
3. loyal friend to many
4. independent and driven, she started working at 14 and has never stopped
5. moved to Florida (ignoring her mom's hair tearing/worrying) where she got a massage degree/license at one of the most rigorous schools in the U.S. -- and met her longtime bf, Michael
6. moved back to Ann Arbor last year and is THRILLED to be home
7. Loves her work as a massage therapist at Fran Coy Salon
8. Obsessed with Harry Potter
OK. That catches you up.
So many of you have asked what you can do to help and I'll admit it: help would be wonderful. She's missed a week of work and will probably be too weak to do much of anything for the next couple of weeks. She will probably need surgery in about three months and needs to regain her strength for that. When he's not at the hospital, Michael is rubbing people's aching backs as fast as he can, but they are down to one income and the next few weeks/months will be a total scramble.
We don't yet know what's happening re hospital bills (she'd let her insurance lapse not long ago in order to pay bills. Some of you will understand this all too well.) So this humble request is not about that, but just about helping Maya get through this immediate crisis.
I pulled the "$1500" amount of my hat because it was required to put in an amount. Anything you can spare will help at this point. I hate that she is stressing about money when she needs to focus on getting better.
Much love -- and deep gratitude to all who have sent their loving thoughts and prayers. Anyone one needs to reach me can find me on Facebook or via my email: [email redacted]
