Tilapia Project to Feed AIDS Orphans

Donation protected
Mission Possible has been an on-going project in the Kabwe area of Zambia for 6 years. Every donation goes directly to the project; all team members fund their own travel and expenses, assist in fundraising events, and financially contribute to the project. Two water wells have been completed, 27,000 pounds of books have been collected and sent to supply a school and fill a new library; and medical supplies and funds toward a clinic have been sent.

The next phase of Mission Possible is to establish a tilapia farm; digging 2 large, half-acre ponds, with brood tanks for sustainability, at Fleurs de Soleil (Sunflowers), a family compound for 100 AIDS orphans, established by Fr. Pierre Ruquoy. The farm will provide enough fish to feed the orphans, and future growth will supply extra fish to sell at market. "Give a fish, and they will eat for a day; teach them to fish, and they will eat for a lifetime."

Funds are needed for the rental of construction equipment, and materials must be procured to dig the ponds and build the tanks. An aeration system will be installed. Brood stock and fingerlings will be bought to stock the tanks and ponds, and an expert from an existing farm will be contracted to teach the care and maintenance of the project.
