Black Essence Magazine

My name is Dawn Faith and I am a Social Entrepreneur, business woman and Creative Artist. Originally from South Africa, I now live in Australia with my husband and two kids.

Being a black woman residing in a predominantly white society can at times make it difficult to feel seen, heard or represented. I want to do something about this through a magazine I am calling Black Essence.

The magazine is specifically designed for black Australians. It aims to celebrate black excellence, ensure that the reader not only sees themselves through the pages but is made to feel like they belong.

Professionally & elegantly crafted, the magazine will be consumed both physically & digitally. We will work with and promote local small black owned businesses, from photographers, makeup artist to cafes.

The initial funds will be used to pay some of our contributors for the first two issues as well as cover all associated admin costs.

I cannot express enough the urgent need for this magazine, even just for me personally. To know that you are not alone is an incredible feeling that all people ought to feel. It would be a dream come true if I can help my black community in Australia to feel this way.
