Daddy's Memorial Fund

Donation protected
It's a heartbreaking reality watching someone you've always known as being so strong, slowly fade into a memory. At 18, when most teens are filling out college applications, and worrying about their dorm-mates, I was standing with my mom, in a court room, signing the papers to become the legal guardian of my dad. Although they had their differences and divorced when I was young, my mom has been by my side the whole way to support me and has graciously and endlessly given her all to help my dad in every way, despite their past. While still learning to be an adult myself, I was scared,  and not yet fully aware of the tremendous responsibility I had been given. Little did I know, just how much this responsibility would change my life...

Dad was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at just 51, with symptoms beginning as early as age 48. At 53 we moved him into full assisted living, with the disease steadily progressing, and have since painfully watched as the past years have been filled with many challenges and good-byes.

God has always been faithful in providing, and many days, I have stayed resting in the shadow of His wings. Through this, I have learned to rely heavily on the Lord, and to trust that His plans for me are always good, despite the circumstances this world throws at us. He has shown me, that through His Grace, even the unimaginable is possible, and that nothing is stronger than forgiveness and selfless love.. Which is what we daily strive to bring to my dad.

I've also learned in the past 6 years, that this is something that no family should have to go through alone. I have been so thankful for the strength and support that has been shown by my mom, my husband, our church community, and several friends... But I have also learned when to ask for help, which is something that has always been hard for me. (a quality I acquired from my dad, who never wanted to stop and "ask for directions" or for help on many handy-man projects!) We all need help at various stages in life, especially when it's hard to ask, and that's why I am here, putting this website together...

Although dad had been on hospice the past year and a half, he moved into full hospice care 2 weeks ago, when his bowels shut down, and within the past 4 days, he has stopped eating and drinking as well. His weight continues to decline, and the hands that held me as a little girl, have now grown grey and frail as I hold them to pray and kiss them each time I leave. As we prepare for his arrival home, where he will be welcomed by many angels and loved ones who have saved a place for him, we are asking friends and family to help by donating any amount they are willing & able to go towards his funeral & memorial costs. His Alzheimer's onset came so early in life that all of his past earnings and savings have since been depleted. The minimal amounts of government funds we were able to receive have all gone completely to his care facilities over the past years and he is left with nothing. Through any donations we can collect, I will be able to truly treasure every moment I have with him still here, without having to deal with the financial burden on my own.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for investing time in our testimony as your prayerfully consider your donation.

blessings,
Dayna
