Charnet needs your help!!!

My name is Tiffany Bailey and I am writing on behalf of my sister Charnet Cawthorne. Charnet is a 23 year old mother of twins who was diagnosed in April of 2012 with Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.  Our family was first introduced to this when she had surgery to have her spleen removed.  Since your spleen helps make of the lymphatic system, having it removed has made her diagnosis more difficult, and develop more rapidly.  Following this tragic news, me and my family have educated ourselves about the disease and researched alternatives that would help save her life. We were blessed to have found a facility to treat her called Natural Horizons Wellness Center, located in Fairfax Virginia where she could begin her chemotherapy treatment. We were able to meet with the staff and discuss a plan for Charnet; we even had the privilege of speaking to patients and family members of patients who were diagnosed with the same type of disease that made a full recovery. After three months of treatment Charnet's health had turned around. All the things the cancer was supposed to suppress such as her hair and nail growth, her energy and her appetite where going back to normal, her cancer cells even started to shrink. The treatment totaled $20,000 and when we were unable to fund it, we had no other choice but to rely on her primary insurance provider, DC Medicaid. Charnet was hospitalized at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. During our initial meeting with her doctors at Washington Hospital Center they informed us that her cancer was 85% curable, so we believed she was receiving treatment just as good as she was at Natural Horizons Wellness Center. In the month of October Charnet had been in and out the Hospital due to her disease, and since November she has been admitted. She has been unable to spend the holidays with her two children, three year old Dash and Cali, and since children are not admitted on her floor, she is missing out on the very joys of being a parent. Recently the cancer has spread to her bone marrow, and at one point her body was depending on blood transfusion daily, due to her body not being able to produce its own blood. The doctors informed us that there is nothing else they can do to help her and that we should take her home and spend as much time with her as we could because they are not sure how long she has to live. I feel like they are giving up on her, and part of our family's speculation comes from the fact that she is receiving insurance from the state, and not paying out of pocket. There is so much more life left in Charnet and we refuse to let that go to waste.  How do we explain to a 23 year old mother that her life is near end? We won't!!!! We will fight this battle to the end. Currently we are in the process of developing a site where people can donate money to help us save her life, but we need your help. We need this story to reach as many people as possible. All we are trying to do is bring awareness to this disease and save my sister's life. Thank you for taking the time out to read this and I pray that you can help us.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Bailey
