DIAGNOSIS: FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA (FTD) AT THE AGE OF 46

***2/18/20 update - Unfortunately, Jason's unemployment appeal was denied (his family was unaware that he had missed 2018 paperwork for 9 months as they were struggling to support a then undiagnosed Jason). Mary Jo continues to express amazement and appreciate for all the kind words and donations to their cause. Last, Jason enjoys looking at pictures and if you have some you would like to share-please add them to Facebook and tag him in it. He has read access and enjoys cycling thru them. Thank You!*****

Over the past 18 months or so, Jason has been dealing and diagnosed with extreme mental health illness. Not until just before Christmas, when he was again hospitalized, that he was re-diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) at the age of 46. The quick explanation is that it is brain atrophy that leads to a progressive loss of brain function. In the early stages, it affects the parts of the brain responsible for judgment calls in social situations and progressively moves on from there. As he has not been able to work for some time and now requires constant supervision, Mary Jo has been working multiple jobs to keep the family afloat while trying to keep up with this medical change for J.

HOW CAN WE SUPPORT THIS FAMILY?

*Pray that he soon leaves the hospital (still hospitalized as of 1/18/20) and that he be placed in the right care facility near where the Spinks live. Pray for the girls (ages 8 and 13) in this transition. Prayers that Mary Jo would have direction, strength and peace as she makes decisions for J and their family.

*Donate to help offset expenses. Funds will be used to bridge the gap between the income of Mary Jo's two jobs and the expenses of maintaining a household (utilities, supplies, childcare costs, children's needs, vehicle costs) and transitioning Jason to a care facility.

*Donate to provide experiences. (For the Canadian families-please note that the donation is in USD) Bless the family by allowing them to bring things up to Jason in the hospital (a special meal, game, activity). Cover summer camp registration costs for the girls to attend camps. Drop a gift card in the mail to allow them a night out.

*Project help - Basic fixer uppers around the house that Jason was no longer able to do over the last couple of years. Replace some wood around a window, fix a door so that it seals properly, etc.

This family appreciates ALL the prayers, people helping with all the extra tasks, and emotional and financial support that their community is giving them. You can get updates on Jason at his CaringBridge site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jasonspinks

Thank you, in advance, for coming alongside them during this overwhelming and unexpected illness.
