Diabetic Alert Dog For Tiffany.

My sweet friend Tiffany Kingsley has been training her dog Bucky to be DAD on her own for over a year now. While raising 4 kids and always willing to give back to her community, friends, family, anyone in need. She’s a giver. So when she told me Bucky was no longer able to be her public service dog my heart broke!! She’s so deserving of the help. A service dog will save her life every day! Literally! There’s is so much I could write. Instead I’ll let you read her words Sometimes God answers prayers quicker than we expect. When we started praying earnestly about whether or not Bucky was a good option for public access service He gave a very clear answer within a day or two. It was honestly devastating, but in His mercy God didn't ask me to wait long to know what the next step is. Every time I eat it’s an insulin guessing game. Dexcom is the best technology, but it can’t really keep up. Anyone with Type 1 Diabetes struggles, but I'm particularly sensitive to both sugar and insulin, and I have multiple autoimmune diseases that affect BG levels and symptoms, so it's extra hard for me to manage it safely. This morning Bucky started alerting when Dex said 220 with a straight up arrow. I checked blood when he persistently kept alerting at 206. Blood said 135 and I had about 150% of my normal mealtime insulin on board bc I ate more carbs than usual with breakfast today. Now Dexcom has caught up with the drop, but I’m already on my way back up . Bucky is laying quietly at my feet, so I figured I was fine. Sure enough blood level is 125. Dex is in interstitial fluid, so it just takes longer. When you drop from 220 to 135 in only a few minutes you just don’t have time to wait for the monitor to catch up. So there's why I need a service dog. In doing some research I found a breeder for golden retrievers in Ventura that ticks all the boxes I'm looking for. Temperament and health are our two biggest factors and I will spare you the details, but we have very good reason to trust this breeder. The day after we made the call to pull Bucky from public access a new litter of 12 was born. Both parents have very good temperaments for service dogs, and both are very healthy. Golden Meadows Kennel will be working with the litter to choose the best pup for our needs. Amazingly, Javan has wanted a golden retriever for years, and he will help me raise, train, and care for it. The first day the pups are available to bring home is March 4th, which is JAVAN's BIRTHDAY! Isn't it cool how God provides? Please continue to pray for wisdom and God's provision. Training your own service dog is way less expensive than paying a trainer, but it is definitely a cost we weren't expecting.
