My mom ( Martha Young) was diagnosed with stage 3 tonsil cancer a week ago. The diagnosis came after several months of feeling like she had a severe ear infection/sore throat. After seeing her regular GP and an ENT, biopsies were done and a tumor was discovered on her tonsils. Some cancerous cells were also found in one lymph node. Prognosis for this type of cancer is good, 90% recovery rates expected after a few months of daily radiation and intermittent chemotherapy. We've been told that treatment and the resulting side effects/illness will be the most difficult part of this process. Eventually, Martha won't be able to swallow as a result of the radiation. She will be having a temporary feeding tube installed surgically prior to the start of treatment.
As many of you know, my mom has spent her adult life being dedicated to helping others through service, education, charitable giving and helping friends and family in need.
My mom lives on a small fixed income and we are looking for any and all donations to help with mounting medical costs. Any donation will help.
