Thoughts from Grace:

As I approach the age of 47 I've spent most of my life in New England, not often traveling much further. I never imagined I'd have the opportunity to go to Guatemala. God has been working in my life in big ways these last few years. Well, He's been there all along, but stubborn me finally opened my eyes to see His guiding hand, and let Him work in me after many painful and difficult years. I keep reaching outside my comfort zone to grow, help others and try to follow God's will. Guatemala is WAYYYY out of my comfort zone! God is sending me far from everything I know, perhaps preparing me for the future. I'm so excited at the chance to volunteer for Project Salud Y Paz, an organization that brings medical care to rural Mayans in Guatemala. 71 % of the people there live in tremendous poverty. We spend more money on a television than they earn in a year. I hope while I am there I can make a difference helping in any way I can. I try to help those around me, but I'd love to use this opportunity to be God's hands and love those in another part of the world, as God has loved me. I imagine they have much to teach me as well. I will need lots of prayers, I'm not the most adventurous person, sometimes I think fear is my middle name! I will also need financial help. The mission trip costs $1,750 to go. It includes everything, including airfare. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thoughts from Melissa:

In October of 2012, I was blessed to have coffee with Juan Toj, the assistant director for Salud Y Paz. His love and compassion for the people of Guatemala - especially the Mayan population that lives in extreme poverty - touched my heart. When the opportunity came to go on this trip through the United Methodist Church in New England, I felt called to offer my gifts to help.

The trip is from April 6th - April 14th, 2013.

Any funds we receive above and beyond $3500 will go to help other people from The Vine's community go on mission trips.
