Hi everyone,
I hope all have been safe through the times of Corona and continue to be safe. I started this fundraiser as things are very difficult in Greece right now for refugees. The island camps are inhumanly overcrowded, illegal pushbacks (Guardian report on disappearing refugees on Chios ) in the sea continue and evictions are happening leaving people who had found a little security - homeless and destitute.
The pandemic has been hard for so many people - have some freedoms curtailed and the worry of the disease. Imagine how hard this is in a refugee camp? Already your freedom of choice has been removed... You cant isolate if you have no home ... you can't wash you hands if you share a tap with hundreds of people - you can't see a doctor when there is 1 for 2,000 vulnerable people. I don't know when I will be able to return to Greece, I will go as soon as is safe. However, I am in touch with grass roots organisations and individuals in Greece who can help use any donations collected where its needed most. So either way you know your donation however large or small will be spent carefully and with dignity. As I always do, every penny will be accounted for and receipts received for all money spent.
