Guitars For Kids!

I have been teaching Guitar Club to students in a charter school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY for the past three months. We are learning basic chord progressions and guitar riffs, plus I throw in some music history lessons about Woody Guthrie, Jimi Hendrix, and Black Sabbath. All my students have just learned how to play the main riff for Iron Man and they are so excited! The school has provided 12 guitars for the students but since none of them own a guitar they don’t have a way to practice other than the one day a week that we have Guitar Club. This is where we come in! I would like to raise $2500 for 12 Epiphone DR-100 acoustic guitars and 12 musician’s gear acoustic gig bags (adding in for shipping). Playing music and learning an instrument has brought so much joy to their faces and hearts. A few weeks ago the school was on ‘shut in’ because there was a shooting outside the school at one o’clock in the afternoon. Crown Heights can be rough sometimes but it doesn’t phase these kids. They have such a heart to succeed and learn and do better. I would love to honor and encourage them by showing that other people care about their success too.
