1st NGO to use the Law to fight climate change

Hey, my name is Mariana, and I´m fundraising for the first NGO in Portugal to use the Law to fight climate change.

About Último Recurso

I founded Último Recurso Association (Last Resource in English) to cut emissions through lawsuits in April.

Five basic principles will guide our action:

(i) Enforce the law through legal action against those responsible for climate degradation;

(ii) To categorically support the activists who embody the manifesto;

(iii)To shape the law through advocacy;

(iv) To develop social projects of solidarity support to communities directly affected by the climate crisis;

(v) Promote access to information on Environmental Law and Human Rights.

Our generation is the last one capable of avoiding climate chaos. Failure to act will lead us to the depletion of natural resources and the planet. We will go to the last judicial recourse to prevent the last natural resources from being extinguished.

Unfortunately, NGOs do not have "easy" access to funding in Portugal, and starting the first projects is hard.

Why would you help?

Have you ever heard about ClientEarth or Earth Justice? They are doing the work that I want to do in Portugal. But I´m only 21, and I´ve been doing activism voluntarily for three years - so I don't have funding to start, but I do have people.

With the work of Último Recurso will be possible to enforce the Law, help other activists and organisations in legal terms and build awareness about the relation between Law and Climate Change and how to use the first.
