Butterfly Conservation Centre

Butterfly populations are rapidly disappearing, mainly due to loss of habitat. Both butterflies and bees are crucial to human health – 35% of the food we eat is dependent on these important pollinators. We must take action now to protect Australia’s 400+ butterfly species, many of which are endangered.

Gold Coast Butterflies is raising funds to establish a Butterfly Conservation Centre on Tamborine Mountain, home of the critically endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly.   Visitors can see a Butterfly Habitat in action with many species of Australian Butterflies in a Tropical Garden setting. People can learn how to plant a Butterfly Habitat in their own backyard to help with Butterfly Conservation in Australia. Our Pollinator Plant Nursery will provide them with the necessary plants to support butterflies and bees. These plants will also be available Online. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting conservation strategies designed to entice butterflies and bees back to our gardens and public spaces.

If you can help us with our Mission, please donate, it's important.

Gold Coast Butterflies has been actively promoting Butterfly Conservation and Education on the Gold Coast for ten years. We have attended numerous community events, garden festivals and other nature-based activities, and have presented our Butterfly Lifecycle and Conservation education program at many local schools and kindergartens. Josephine  volunteers with Friends of the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens to conduct butterfly observation and research and provide regular free public walks discovering butterflies and their preferred plants.
