Help Our Sonia Recover From Tropical Storm Imelda!

There are many people in desperate need of help after Tropical Storm Imelda’s sudden and devastating impact; but you won’t find any person who has herself helped more people than Sonia. Now it is her hour of need (again), and we ask your help in supporting her to a more safe and sustainable future for her and her children.

Sonia is a longtime hard-working paralegal, dedicated Christian, and single mom. If there is a need in her family, friends, or work circle, she meets it with energy, hands-on work, and prayer. She is a cheerleader and encourager for every person she meets – even in her own darkest days.


In Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Sonia’s home was destroyed by four feet of water. She clawed her way back to a stable life for her boys, while suffering the loss of her mother and managing a demanding work schedule. As soon as she was ready to enjoy the fruits of this labor in her repaired home, Tropical Storm Imelda hit, surprising Beaumont with its direction and force.


Don’t let the term Tropical Storm fool you. This time, after a crucial levy broke, Sonia’s house sustained even more water than Hurricane Harvey, over 6 feet. She and her children evacuated to the second floor, and were eventually rescued by boat along with their bulldog, “T-Bone.”


This time around, Sonia is meeting this challenge with even more vigor and resolve. Relocating from this vulnerable area imposes almost insurmountable financial restraints. But Sonia is determined to meet the challenge to provide a safe haven for herself and her boys.
