Reconstruction surgery needed for Ada
Our beautiful girl, Ada (now 3 1/2 years old) was born with an Imperforate Anus with rectal-vaginal fistula, which occurs 1 in 5,000 births (usually in boys). Ada was admitted to the NICU for 5 weeks after birth, where numerous tests and xrays were done to eliminate any other malformations. At 3 months, Ada had a colostomy surgery, then at 7 months she had her "pull thru" surgery to correct her rectum (or lack of). At the time of her colostomy she was also diagnosed with Hirschsprung's Disease. Since then Ada has struggled with bowel issues, UTI's, high fevers, reflux in the kidneys (kidney infections), and now re-diagnosed again with a persistent cloaca (occurs 1 in 20,000 births and only in girls). She will need bowel management in January 2013, and a serious/complex reconstructive surgery in February 2013 to correct her urethra, vagina, and anus, which are currently 1 channel, and need to be 3 separate channels. We have been to numerous hospitals in the Chicago area, but now we need more expert help and have turned to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. It is quickly becoming difficult financially to visit Cincinnati Children's for extended periods of time; And Ada will need both mom and dad by her side to help her recover from surgery.
