HERNAN ARMANDO NIETO biólogo y docente universitario venezolano, ha sido diagnosticado con ELA, Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrofica,la cual es una enfermedad de tipo degenerativa, (también conocida como la enfermedad de Lou Gehrig o de Stephen Hawking) de carácter neurodegenerativa progresiva que afecta a las neuronas motoras del cerebro y la médula espinal que dejan de funcionar y, por lo tanto, de enviar mensajes a los músculos, ocasionando debilitamiento muscular e incapacidad de movimiento. Afecta a muchas funciones del paciente -no solo a la motora- como la respiración, la nutrición o la social y psicológica. Se trata de la tercera enfermedad neurodegenerativa en incidencia, tras el Alzheimer y otras demencias y la enfermedad de Parkinson. Por ello, apelamos a tu solidaridad para poder ayudar en el tratamiento de esa enfermedad. Si bien hoy en día no existe una cura o tratamiento que detenga o revierta la ELA, hay un medicamento aprobado por la FDA, Riluzole, que modestamente frena su avance. Este medicamento solo se consigue en el exterior y por supuesto en dólares. Es por ello, que hemos iniciado esta recolecta para poder llevar a cabo un tratamiento que le permita tener una mejor calidad de vida. Es por ello que apelamos a tu buen corazón para poder hacerle el tratamiento necesario, dado que las actuales circunstancias del país dificultan poder erogar el costo del tratamiento.

HERNAN ARMANDO NIETO, venezuelan biologist and college professor, has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which is a degenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or Stephen Hawking’s disease. Its nature is progressive neurodegeneration, which affects the motor neurons in the brain and bone-marrow, rendering them dysfunctional and, therefore, ceases to send messages to the muscles, leading to muscular weakness and movement impairment. It impacts several aspects in the patient, not only motor-function, but respiratory, nutritional, social and psychological. It is the third neurodegenerative disease in occurrence, after Alzheimer, Parkinson and other dementias. Because of that, we’re appealing to your generosity to assist in his treatment for his disease. Even though there is still not a cure or a treatment to cease or revert ALS, there is an existing drug approved by the FDA called Riluzole, that moderately slows down its progress. This drug can only be found in foreign countries, and of course, it’s priced in dollars; which is why we’re appealing to your kind heart in order to provide him the treatment that he requires, since the circumstances that are currently occurring in the country hinder the distribution of the cost of this treatment
