Save Our Car - Low Income Cancer Patient

*Goal raised to reflect fees charged by towing company per day it takes for my account transfer to be verified. Hi, I'm Lex McCoy. Recently my mother (pictured above) and I were on our way to the food bank because we're out of food money and barely making rent, when we hit a blind corner on the road to the food bank. From behind us suddenly there was the sound of someone slamming on their horn and screaming expletives and threats at someone else also behind us - distracting my mother just long enough for us to plow into the guardrail on the side of the hill. We'd forgotten our phones but were walking distance from home so we went to get them so we could phone 911 and check to see if our AAA membership was still valid (it wasn't). In the mean time, someone had the car towed clear across town (we're on the southern border near Kent, and the car was towed walking distance from the border into Seattle, clear across the city.) Our bank account is empty (technically, it's in the negative). I have less than a dollar in loose change, not even enough to take a bus. The only food money we have is a gift card locked inside the towed car. The tow shop wants around $250 to retrieve the car today, plus approximately $50 per day that we don't pick it up. My mother is on disability for stage iv breast cancer metastatic to the bones - she won't recieve her next payment for over a weak, and nearly all of that goes to rent. I'm her son and caretaker, and while I'm looking for work my search is complicated by the fact that I have a serious leg injury that prevents me from standing in one place for very long, narrowing the scope of jobs available to me. We badly need a car - my mother's medical facility is located in downtown Seattle, and the bus service in our region is pretty poor. I need to be able to run errands for her, go to food banks and other resources for those in financial need, as well as my own various specialist appointments for rheumatology, podiatry, neurology, and psychiatry. The insurance, in theory, will cover the repairs to the car minus the deductible but I'm worried that'll leave us yet again without money for food or even the cost of rent. Any help you can provide at all is invaluable to keeping us housed and my mother healthy and fed. You have my eternal gratitude for any assistance you can provide. Thank you for your time and consideration, Lex McCoy
