METHOD:
1. A Space
Our first step is to find the right place to create the workspace. We have proposed a container as containers are easy to find, secure and easily transportable. Machines will then be built from plans available from Precious Plastic. Machines are then housed inside. https://youtu.be/ME-eiYvbgCg
2. Collect Raw Material
Plastic waste is the raw material. Setting up an efficient and recurrent collection system is the first step to run a successful recycling workspace. Located in an area which generates plastic waste is ideal as local shops and business can get on board to supply.
3. Sort and Shred That Plastic!
Bigger plastic objects are chopped into smaller flakes using the shredding machine. Shredded plastic is easier to store, wash, melt, sell and use in the other machines or processes.
Different plastic types have to be separated as they have different melting temperatures and properties. An efficient sorting system is crucial to avoid mixing plastic and ruining your process. This education and awareness of different plastics is a key goal of this project. The shredded plastic will be labelled and stored accordingly to avoid cross contamination and a material bank created for future creations. Storing plastic by colours will allow it be used for specific jobs.
4. Melting and Moulding Time
Once the plastic is ready it can start creating valuable products from plastic waste using the four basic machines. Each machine is slightly different but work on the same concept: melt, press, cool down.
5. Create products
Precious Plastic has developed different techniques to create things with plastic waste. Products, construction material or art objects- the possibilities are endless.
6. Display, Sell and Educate
Once the products are ready is time to finish, photograph and display the creations beautifully so they can be sold to people locally or online around the world. Workshops and seminars to inspire the community.
