Disability and Vets coffee/crepes project

Beschermde donatie
People with disabilities are marked by challenges in their lives and all too often are not valued. In our society there are so many misconceptions about employing people that have disabilities. Research shows that corporations that hire people with disabilities say that their employees are dependable, reliable, productive, and engaged. We want to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities in Palestine, Texas, through crêpes and coffee. Our goal is to offer an independent future and to help them see themselves as capable and valuable members of this community. Our crêpe and coffee shop will offer crêpes (sweet and savory), coffee, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and ice cream.  Healthy /gluten-free/vegetarian options will also be available.  One of our goals, is to keep our menu items affordable. We believe in passing along the generosity that our community has given us. We are going to include many community events like dance classes, events, and other fun and engaging activities for Palestine. This will be a fun place to just hang out and get some good food and coffee. We can’t do this alone. We need some financial help from our community. First, we promise to hire people with disabilities, retired, underaged, and vets. Secondly, Crêpes and Coffee will carpool and pay gas expenses for its employees to get to and from work. (not everyone drives nor can afford it) Thirdly, we pledge to recycle, renew, and reuse.  Example: The doors and window for the building were bought from Habitat for Humanity. Many of the dishes that will be used in the shop will be donations from the community.  Crêpes and Coffee will be located right beside Dollar Tree. (the lease is signed) We have given $40,000 to this cause so far. Our other community partner Troy Scheppler Construction. We are looking for other people with a passion to see people with disabilities succeed. Please help us pour happiness into people’s cups. I’m Susan Bauer and I live in Palestine, Texas. I’m retired TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice) of 32 years. I was chief of classification/case worker. I placed inmates in educational and employment programs. Then I was promoted to assistant director of Region Two.  After retirement, I went to work as the manager of Goodwill. Sincerely, Susan Bauer
