Help Ryan Walk Again

Donation protected
On May 8, 2019 my brother Ryan became very ill with severe headaches, light sensitivity, and vomiting. He was hospitalized on May 11th, despite the thorough workup they were unable to identify what was causing Ryan's condition. His condition continued to deteriorate which was concerning to both our family and medical staff. On Day 4 he became extremely confused, was hallucinating, began to have severe tremors, weakness of lower extremities, and his eyes drifted up to the ceiling the majority of his day. On day 7 he continued to deteriorate rapidly prompting our Mother to voice extreme concern and worry. The outcome was a transfer to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Thirteen hours after the transfer he was placed on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma on their Shock Trauma's critical care ICU. The doctor’s told us while the cause was still unknown it was most likely something he contracted from our local river when he went jet skiing 2 days prior to his symptoms. They believe the organism was forced into the left side of his nose where it traveled to the left sinus and then eventually to his brain. Ryan’s condition continued to deteriorate over the next few weeks despite the excellent care he received from the University of Maryland. He began to have paralysis starting with his legs and continued to travel up his body to facial paralysis due to severe swelling of the spinal cord. Ryan was transferred to the University of Maryland Orthopaedic Institute on June 13th, 2019. He is currently still an in-house patient at this facility where he is undergoing intense Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. We humbly ask you to help Ryan for when he returns home. He will need handicap modifications to his home. This will include a ramp, widening some of the doorways to make them wheelchair accessible, and widening the bathroom entrance to be able to get a wheelchair in.  He will also need assistance covering past and future medical expenses, lost wages, transportation, and out patient appointments. These appointments are expected to cost approximately $850/month. Most importantly, a  light weight wheel chair and a stem bike to help activate his muscles in hopes that will jumpstart his legs so he has a chance at walking again. It is unclear if Ryan will be able to walk again. We are extremely hopeful and optimistic that he will. The best chance he has is through the medical treatment he has received thus far as well as his upcoming outpatient visits once he leaves inpatient rehab. He won't be able to do this without our donations. Thank you for taking the time to read about his condition and donating towards his recovery.
