XRDC Civil Disobedience and Legal Fees

Donation protected
Extinction Rebellion DC is a chapter of the international organization that uses civil disobedience actions to protest government inaction towards the climate crisis.

On October 1st, while many were traveling and rebelling in NYC, XRDC - Montgomery County along with members of the Climate Mobilization and 350 organized a small group of 10 protesters to make a big splash in business as usual.

Mark Elrich is the Montgomery County executive who has broken promises to tackle the climate crisis time and time again. He has failed to follow through on divestment from fossil fuels or closing the Dickerson Incinerator which turns trash into super toxins—and GHG or establishing a “climate test” on new regulations or appointing a special assistant to coordinate climate action or raising any new revenue for the WWII mobilization he promised—the list goes on. Montgomery County was the first jurisdiction in the United States to declare a climate emergency, but that means nothing unless paired with aggressive action. Mark Elrich has chosen, as many politicians before him, to support profits over people.

In the continued struggle for environmental justice, four brave rebels were arrested after allegedly obstructing traffic entering the executive building parking lot. Please donate to funding the legal fees and potential associated penalties so these rebels can keep fighting the good fight.

Such a small group of people had the courage to put their bodies on the line in an attempt to save millions from climate collapse. Let them be an inspiration for small groups everywhere to rise up and demand action. Donate to their legal support and consider starting your own uprising, small or large.

If you would like to support our organization but do not wish for your money to be spent on legal fees and jail support, please see our general campaign. https://www.gofundme.com/extinction-rebellion-dc
