Short story.
need to pay taxes.
*********************************************
"Once upon a time"
my dad bought a beautiful Victorian home on Reservoir Avenue in Jersey City.
A beautiful one hundred year old Victorian with a great Gingerbread porch to rival some I've seen in New Orleans.

My mom, dad, grandma and my aunt lived there for the rest of their lives. It is the home I grew up in as did my son.

It is the place I still call home.
This is a great block to live on with trees and lots of birds.
It is beautiful.

After teaching English in Korea for years, I learned of my dad's failing health and came home to help. He needed around the clock care and I stepped up to bat the best that I could. As result I was unable to continue teaching.

He passed in 2005.
He had a good end of life.
I could write a book if they asked me.

Afterwards, I had two roommates,
both young South Korean women here to study
and eat KimChi with me, YUM.
Both personally referred.
They flew off as fledglings do.

I need a new human roommate to help with expenses.
Still....
I don't live here alone -
I live with five fine feline friends.

Two girls remain from the four kittens my dad brought in from the back yard 13 years ago and they have never known anywhere else. One is still mostly feral, CoCo.

Then there is "Moe the hobo" cat who is a stray some kind hearted soul had neutered and released. He found me and I fell in love. He's a white and orange hunk of love, a bit skittish when Puffin(the other original) let's him know she does not want him around.

Then there are "The Boys"; they are sweet darlings, coming to the door when I come home.

They were unable to stay with their original owner, and I wouldn't see them stay in a shelter.
With lots-o-love, time and work, they have acclimated to living here.
They've taken up residence in my bed.
When I watch Netflix in bed, they will inevitably place themselves between me and my movie.
We've had many discussions. Anyone familiar with cat customs and culture already knows how far that got me. NoWhere. Chuckle.

They all love it here, as do I. the backyard with the squirrels, the insects, the smells, basking in the sunshine.

And they have a front view, too. " Bird Network" or cat TV

Back to me.
The lifting and stress of full time caregiving took it's toll and I developed a hernia. I'll spare the reader the details (unless asked) but, as a result of multiple surgeries, I am disabled.

I have an ostomy, with two leaks around the perimeter.I cannot keep an ostomy appliance adhered to my shin more than several hours and there is no guaranty on the length of time.

It can leak anytime, ANYPLACE.

Since I could not find employment using the teaching skills I had honed so well, as it is impossible to work around people with my disability.

Instead, this severe restriction brought me to the most therapeutic of occupations....part time work Pet Sitting.

Have I got pictures to show!

I have been doing Pet Care jobs these past five years but found myself forced into retirement last December.
A combination of the rules on earning imposed by Social Security Insurance (taking back 50 cents on the dollar!), my inability to be available for any and all Pet Sitting assignments due to being disabled caused it.
In the whole five years I never made enough to pay The City Municipal Taxes and I have fallen far behind.
Primarily because SSI restricts me to $2,000 in a month's cycle and the tax office wants ONLY payment in full.

In October and November, 2012, I received letters from Tax Lien companies which paid off my tax bill at Auction.

It put me in quite a state.
The stress of this "Sword of Damocles" hanging over my head has compromised my health further:
heart palpitations, spikes in blood pressure, my sugar level. It's a domino show and a full time job taking care of myself and traveling to Doctor's visits.

Have I got pictures!

How could I bear losing the family house and unsettling the kitties.
I realized I couldn't.
Then I learned about this website
and knew that with a little help from my friends, I'd get by and my story would end:
"and they lived happily ever after".

I ask that a small donation be made which will go directly directly to The Bankruptcy Court Trustee.
Yes, My only recourse to work out a payment plan with my Hometown was to file a Chapter 13 and to negotiate a payment plan through the courts Trustee.
I am still required to pay the city taxes.
So, the saying that one has to pay taxes is true.I say throw the tea overboard.

Anyway, I approached Jersey City's Clerk to assist me in an appeal to suspend charging me taxes for the next 5 years.
Some kind of tax amnesty or something like government gives to corporations who need help.

Everybody will be kept updated. And I'll be adding pictures and documentation as we go along raising the funds to make my dream come true.
I am sending this out first to friends and family in the certain knowledge that they will get my clarion call out to many, many of their friends and families, so that my call will be heard far and wide (even to my second home, South Korea).

Please, friends, family and acquaintances pass this on to others, whether you able to contribute or not.
Every contribution, no matter the amount will help me.

I Thank You All.
