Basketball Court for Parijat Academy
Donation protected
My name is Shaffer Spaeth. I live in Seattle, Washington and I am currently a volunteer at Parijat Academy (blog) outside of Guwahati, India. The school offers free education to more than 500 under-privileged children from rural villages, ages 5 to 16, many of whom would not be attending school if not for Parijat.
The school's main courtyard, where hundreds of students assemble every morning and afternoon, is dirt and needs to be paved. An even concrete surface would allow students to play basketball with the installation of a hoop at the south end. Basketball is, of course, an excellent way for both boys and girls to get exercise and to have fun while learning about leadership and teamwork. Currently, the school's only "sports facilities" are disused rice paddies, so a simple basketball court would make a big difference. In addition, paving the courtyard would make the school more professional, eliminating dust kicked up by the students in the dry seasons and mud during monsoons.
Every high school in the United States has a basketball court. Help build one here at Parijat Academy!
