Help Kevin Beat Melanoma!
Hi Everyone... My name is Kevin Banash, many of you may know me as "Kevlar". For many years I have worked in the construction field and enjoyed many of the outdoor activities that living in Durango, Colorado has afforded me. I thought that my battle was won 10 years ago when I had surgery to remove a lesion on my nose that had the potential to be cancerous.
But... my time in the Sun has caught up with me again!
A short while ago two more lesions appeared on my nose - one on each side. They seemed to be growing at an accelerated rate and were gradually changing in appearance so I scheduled an initial consultation with my Dermatologist to find out if I should be concerned. After his examination he advised me to have biopsies of these areas done ASAP. Within days I was on his surgical schedule to have two excisional biopsies performed. Because these lesions were suspicious my biopsies were sent to a specialized Dermatopathology Laboratory in Oregon for evaluation.
Five days later the Pathology Report came back and I received the devastating news that both lesions were one of the deadliest forms of skin cancer, Melanoma! Early the very next week I was scheduled for Surgery.
I am grateful for your financial support during this challenging time. I will be using your generous donations to help cover the medical expenses that are mounting up from my biopsies, dermatopathology reports, surgeries, additional follow up care, treatments and the reconstructive surgeries I may need to be freed from this Life Threatening disease.
In paying it forward and to bring awareness to early skin cancer prevention and detection - Always wear Broad Spectrum Sunscreen (even on cloudy days) - Wear Protective Clothing such as hats and wrap around sunglasses and Remember to perform regular self exams of your skin checking for any unusual changes in freckles, moles or lesions on your face and/or body.
