Kylie's Cancer Fight Journey

PLEASE SHARE! - Every little bit counts!

My sister Kylie is in her 3rd year of battling Refractory Hodgkins Lymphoma. This type of lymphoma is stubborn to say the least and does not respond to chemotherapy alone. She was diagnosed at Stage 4 in 2016. It has been the hardest time of her life as she is a single mum who has had to stop work as a Registered Nurse/Midwife due to the countless treatments and their effects. She's been an absolute warrior and an inspiration. Kylie's always willing to help others where and when she can - even throughout her illness! But now the tables have turned and she needs our help.
After many treatments which are outlined in "Kylie's Story" below, she is now in Sydney away from her Newcastle home and family for a number of months. She's currently undergoing her second transplant, a Donor Bone Marrow Transplant which involves a long recovery (12-18 months) before she can truly be back on her feet and resume "normal" life.
On a limited income she has had to maintain rental and living costs for her 14 year old son at home, along with the living costs for herself in Sydney and that's not mentioning the medications or the chemotherapy bill. I have set up this page to try to help Kylie for now as well as her transition home and recovery.

Kylie has shared her story on her Instagram and FB pages "fighter.like.rocky" to raise awareness and inspire others facing this disease, as she believes it's better to stand together and fight. Please donate - any little bit is more than appreciated to help get these two special people back on their feet. Although they always keep smiling, they have struggled for too long. Let's help change the lives of these courageous fighters today!

"Kylie's Story"

Enjoying a busy life and her work in Birth suite. Kylie had not thought anything was wrong until she began to notice some unexplained weight loss and painful raised areas. After a few trips to the doctor and referral to specialist and scans, Kylie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2016. Devastated and unsure of her future Kylie stayed strong and awaited further treatment plans - which was a painful many weeks - as biopsies needed to be done and then the correct chemotherapy to start.
After two different chemo regimes, the next PET scan indicated that chemotherapy alone was not going to irradicate the cancer. Making it "Refractory Hodgkins Lymphoma" at this time chemo continued until an Autogolous Stem Cell Transplant could be done in 2017. Kylie was so strong through the gruelling process of the transplant and we got a glimpse of relief when the PET showed she was clear and "radiologically" in remission. Unfortunately, Kylie relapsed within 2 months of the transplant deeming it unsuccessful. Beyond disappointed Kylie always stayed positive and smiled her way through! Now her only chance was a donor bone marrow transplant. Kylie would need furthur treatment before the transplant could happen and was then started on Immunotherapy Treatment for 6 months and began the rigorous testing for bone marrow transplant qualification. After passing all other tests her PET scan returned a result that her disease was still too active, so could not move ahead with the transplant. This was just another set back for Kylie that she has faced in this fight, and meant more surgery for more biopsies. A different Immunotherapy Drug was given and now 12 months later, Kylie went through all the testing and thankfully qualified for the donor bone marrow transplant. Luckily one of our younger sister's, Neroli, was the only match and went thru the process of Apheresis to give Kylie her stem cells. Kylie is currently battling through the transplant process down in Sydney now and We are hoping for positive results that will stick this time and follow her through her recovery!

Thank you for reading my amazing sister's story, please help to get this page out there.
