Make Noise Music Fund

Donation protected

Hello!

My name is Beck Schlip. I created the Make Noise Music Fund. I started it in honor of my brother Travis Swager who passed away last year. For those who knew him, knew he was big into music. He was an avid guitar player, music lover and all around pretty cool dude.

For over twenty years he was the chef extraordinaire at the Franklin Spa. He was part of a beautiful work family, a tight restaurant community and a fixture at many of Newports fine establishments.  While at the spa,  A young kid named Teddy started working one summer as a dishwasher and was quickly drawn to my brother sharing a passion for music. They talked music, went to shows and got Trav to teach him to play guitar. Teddy Nabozy is now an active musician in Nashville, and even uses one of my brothers guitars he learned to play on.

I want to keep this spirit going, which I why I started the fund. My goal is help kids on Aquidneck island with financial aid to cover costs of instrument rentals, lessons and accessories. Any parent who’s had kids play an instrument knows it can get pricey.  I also want to collect and refurbish used instruments to be gifted to those in need. I think one thing many of us can agree on is that the arts have been a major component of making it through that complete dumpster fire that was 2020. We’ve all used many different mediums to process and express ourselves and create new purpose in our lives. We are proof as artists and musicians who’ve survived through all this that the arts are thriving and they are needed.  I hope to keep that going for kids in our community through music and beyond.
