Helping Jean
Helping Jean Welcome to the support site for Jean Skoreyko. Jean is a nurse who worked for decades as a cancer nurse, most recently with the cancer program for children in Calgary, Alberta.
Jean semi-retired in 2010 and moved to Gabriola Island in BC to follow a new nursing path that would lead to a retirement dream. As she was settling into her new nursing life and her "˜semi-retirement', she was diagnosed with non-hodgkin lymphoma in May of this year. Her disease did not respond well to chemotherapy and in August she switched to a more intensive chemotherapy, which has had no impact on her disease.
Jean is about to start a course of radiation therapy, and rather than receive that treatment in the isolation of Gabriola Island, she has returned "˜home' to Calgary so that she can be with her family and friends to lessen the emotional burden.
Due to the very nature of this disease and the aggressive treatment she has had thus far, Jean has been unable to work since May which has created extra burden and stress for her. Her plan had been to return to her nursing career in the new year, but those plans are no longer realistic.
Many have asked what to do to help Jean. In addition to staying connected with Jean and praying for her, the biggest thing we can do for her is donate to make the next chapter of Jean's life as comfortable and worry free as possible. As a cancer nurse, Jean knows the "˜enemy' she now faces, and we want to help her with her mounting bills so can face this "˜enemy' with as much strength as possible.
Our goal is $10,000. With the exception of small fees that this site and paypal take to pay for the transactions, 100% of all funds raised will be used by Jean to cover her living expenses. Any donation size helps.
