Cash and safe containing £4,000 stolen from Heaton cafe The Oats and Eggs Pantry.Beverley & Chris have worked exceptionally hard to establish their business. For anyone who’s visited the cafe it’s clear they’ve put their heart and soul into the cafe to create a safe, fun environment for children but crucially for parents and carers to socialise and relax. It’s a family business in the heart of the Heaton community. The family haven’t asked for this but as a gesture of support and a constructive way to help alleviate some stress, let’s get them back on track. Any donation, however small would I’m sure be massively appreciated. Extracts below are from the Chronicle article. The owners of The Oats and Eggs Pantry cafe on Chillingham Road say that 'everything was taken' during the early-morning burglary.A burglar who broke into a popular Heaton cafe made off with thousands of pounds in a stolen safe, leaving the owners devastated. The Oats and Eggs Pantry on Chillingham Road was broken into at around 6.30am on Tuesday, shortly before the business opened for the day.Owners Beverley Wilson, 36, and partner Chris Arkley say "everything was taken" when the thief emptied the till which contained around £500 and stole a disguised safe. The safe contained around £4,000, saved since the cafe's opening in November 2017, and was going to be used to take the couple's two children on holiday.Beverley said: "The staff locked up last night and we have shutters on all the windows and bars on the back door. We have one small window into the washroom which doesn't have bars."It is in a yard with a locked gate, so they have jumped over and taken the window panel off."We opened our business and put every penny we have made back into it. Everything we had put in the safe was to live off."We have two children and that was their holiday money. We were only going to go to the Lake District. That's the gutting thing now it's gone. You learn lessons don't you? We know now not to keep anything in the building."We want to share it as quickly as we can. I know we're not going to get that money back, but hopefully this can stop it happening to another family."
