Support Connection To The Stage

Hello, I'm Rachael Halliwell - Writer, Theatre maker and Yorkshire lass. www.rachaelhalliwell.com

'We are only as powerful as the stories we tell' (Emilia by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm)

I love this quote as it sums up my passion to keep writing and sharing stories that I believe need to be told.
Help me raise the roof, break all the glass ceilings we can and support my first full length play - Connection - which will debut at Harrogate Theatre on 1st - 4th October 2019.

Connection is a Yorkshire ‘Thelma and Louise’ of an adventure where two women meet as strangers in the A&E waiting room of Harrogate District Hospital and share a life changing 24 hours.

We urgently need your help to raise vital match funding to support our Arts Council application. If we are unlucky and don't get the brass, the budget is in place for both ends of the scale and all of our team will be paid something and the show will still go on.
I'm an Associate Artist at Harrogate Theatre and they are co-producing the play. They are supporting us with rehearsal space, marketing and commissioning fees. They have championed me and I'm incredibly proud of my home theatre.

We believe in the play and we believe in the power of kindness and the community.

Please support new writing, talent of all ages and donate whatever you can afford. We would hugely appreciate it and are grafting hard to make this play a right belter. We won't let you down.

About the Show and the Team

Following on from the success of Deirdre and Me, Room 253, Project Juno and Studio Shorts- Associate Artist and Harrogate Lass, Rachael is proud to be debut her first full length play at her home theatre. She is delighted to be working with exciting Northern talent including Andrew Turner, (Macduff in Fantastic Beasts, Coronation Street, and Father Brown) in a part specially written for him and reuniting with Nathan Marsh who is directing, Rufus Beckett and Ellie Hunzinger (The Paper Waits) who will be composing original music for the play.

Two strangers are trying to escape their demons, Elaine needs to take a trip to Scarborough to say goodbye to a friend and Catherine is going to ruin someone’s life if she stays. The unlikely pairing decide to take a road trip together. It's a liberating experience for both of them until an urgent phone call from Steve, Catherine’s estranged half-brother, demands their return to the Hospital.

Tackling legacy, the role of carers- professional and familial, crisis and how we all need to ask for help at times. Funny, sharp and putting women front and centre, Connection explores a brief, shared moment in time and the impact it can have on the rest of your life.
