"Fight Like Chuck" Medical Recovery

Chuck has battled hardship his whole life. From battling physical handicap his whole life, to losing a wife to cancer, being trapped living in a Chris Gately slum apartment, to this viscious attack. He has always been a fighter but more importantly a selfless giver. Just last Sunday he sat in the sun for 6 hours helping out at a fundraiser for someone he didn't even know, and did so with a smile on his face the whole time. He was attacked Saturday afternoon May 25th by a man who had previously beaten up his own wife. Chuck gave this man's wife some place to be away from him, and as a result the man came and knocked on the door, then when Chuck opened it the man hit Chuck 3 times in the face and head with a brick, then stabbed him 8 times severing a vital artery and piercing his left lung. Chuck coded in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and then endured hours and hours of surgery to repair the artery and other damage caused by the attack. After being taken away to the hospital the police failed to lock up his apartment properly and some local squatters broke in and stole his phone and his wallet amongst other things to top it all off. Chuck is going to likely need other medical supports/procedures going forward as well as replacing many items stolen out of his apartment and then getting relocated to a safe place to live once he gets out of the hospital. As I stood in his ICU room talking to Chuck about it all he said to me "I would do it again". I've known Chuck for over 30 years and he has always been this kind of man. He spends hours helping out and ministering to others at his local church while relying on a power chair to get around many times even in the snow and rain. HE NEEDS A BREAK!!!
