Alenuihaha Channel Crossing 2013

Aloha! We are an all women's long distance crew representing Kawaihae Canoe Club. Established in 1972, on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are a non-profit 501-C3 organization under the coaching directives of Manny Veincent co-founder, president and head coach for over two decades of the Club's existence. Our goal for 2013 is to voyage across the 'Alenuihaha Channel starting in Hana, Maui finishing at Mahukona, Hawaii. The "Crossing" as we are calling it is not a race but will be a historical and cultural journey. It will link us to our ancestors who crossed the same channel for ho'ike, trade, etc, or just to visit 'Ohana. It was a necessity, a way of life. The historic and cultural value of this journey will be epic in respect to the kai-ocean, 'aina-land, and hōʻihi-respect for all involved, our ancestors and future generations. We pride ourselves with our kids program and for the ladies on this journey we want to inspire more of the children to set goals, plan for their goals, and see them through. It is important to serve as positive role models for our keiki. The legacy we leave behind will have a profound effect on all who view our documentary (documentary video to follow). The journey Uncle Manny started, will come full circle with this final and last crossing.
Fundraising (we have started fundraising efforts from October 2012)and donations are our key monetary sources and will be used for training, escort boats, shipping canoes to our start point, lodging, and meals.
