Creating Bespoke Gifts
I will be starting a gift and customization business from scratch. I am hoping to create independence for myself by owning my own business. I would like to empower others in my community who want to start a business but don't have anyone helping or encouraging them in a practical way. I want to show that success can be achieved against the odds if you work hard.
I need £1500 to build a workshop in my garden shed, materials, equipment and storage, while another £1500 is for outstanding rent so I can start my business. I will buy items, customize or gift wrap and sell online.
I would like to regularly donate to charities such as Women's Aid and Macmillan Cancer support, which can be achieved through any profits I make. Women's Aid need to continue their life saving work, while Macmillan need more nurses to help cancer patients and their families.
There is funding for new start ups in the UK, however a small business that commissions piecework is not considered. My business would be seen as a hobby which may not make vast sums of money, but being passionate about your goal is important, otherwise no one would have a business!
I need funding as I am a student on a low income, and also an unofficial carer to 2 people who I live with - one with Autism and the other with mental health difficulties.
My marketing will mostly be on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, while I aim to also sell on Etsy and Folksy. Another idea is to create gifts to order, for example table displays at corporate events and wedding/birthday/christening/baby shower gifts, which is in the pipeline.
Luxury customization will incur a fee of £35, and £25 for bespoke gift baskets. Items for sale will be charged at their normal cost. Any accessory can be customized if they are a reasonable size, even items such as laptops, kindle readers, mobile phones and guitars.
I will be shipping all items via Royal Mail/Courier/Fed Ex/DHL etc, to reach the destination in time.
