Hello everyone. My name is Jessica Carl and my family lost our home in Hurricane Sandy. We have a small ranch house in Lindenhurst, NY and everything inside of our house was completely destroyed. We have flood insurance however there are several things flood insurance does not cover, and they will not cover any of the contents that were in our home.
We have a 1 year old son and a 3 year old son, who lost everything as well (toys, beds, etc.). My 3 year old son has been having an incredibly difficult time understanding what went on and why we can't go home, and we are trying our best to restore some sense of normalcy for him as soon as we can.
We are currently displaced and living with other family members until we can get help from insurance and any other programs available to us. We are a struggling middle class family and never realized how many costs are associated with recovering from a disaster like this, even with full flood insurance. We are struggling to come up with the funds that we will have to pay out of pocket, and are desperate for any financial help that we can get to try to restore our lives and give our children their home back as quickly as we can.
