My mom and breast cancer

Donation protected

My mother is one of the most amazing individuals I know. Growing up, she supported us (all three of us) in whatever activities we chose to participate in:.Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports, band, school activities, etc. I remember a year when both my brother and I were playing Puyallup Rough Rider football. She would take us to all the practices and games:and stand in the rain watching us and cheering us on. She helped with homework, researched reports with us, taught us life skills, and kept us out of trouble. She and my dad adopted my sister when she was a toddler, providing her with a loving family to grow up in. At 65 years old, she is now raising my 11 year old nephew:.to provide him with that same loving environment. My mom is constantly putting others before her own needs.

On October 7th, 2011, my mom, Billie Hamblin, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was one of the hardest days of my life, thinking that my mom might not be around much longer:but she fought, like she always does. Over the next 11 months, she received chemotherapy, radiation, and went through a double mastectomy.  It took a toll on her body. We watched her struggle to keep fighting:but she did. She was admitted on numerous occasions to the emergency room at the hospital. Because her body was so weak, she caught pneumonia.

In August of 2012, my mom finished her chemotherapy. My mom and her doctor asked her insurance company for a PET scan, to make sure that the cancer had not spread to other places in her body (she was worried about this, because during her mastectomy they told her that the cancer was in her lymph nodes). The insurance company turned her down, explaining that it cost too much money. She appealed, explaining why needed this done, but again, they turned her down. At this point, her only option is to pay for the PET scan herself. She wants it to ease her mind:so that she knows:one way or another if she still has the cancer in her body. Paying for the PET scan herself is not an option, because she has already paid thousands of dollars in co-pays and hospital visits.

A PET scan costs roughly $5000 (we're raising a little more due to the "fees" involved with fundraising sites. :) Since my mom has always put others before herself, we are taking upon ourselves to raise this money for her. Our goal is to try to pay for the entire PET scan, so that she doesn't have to pay anything else out of pocket to battle this horrible disease.

Please donate to help my mom receive the scan she needs, so that she can live without "the unknown."

Thank you "“
