J’s Service Dog

Dear family and friends!We are the Tanner family. We are a family of 7 with 1 biological and 4 adopted kiddos. Our journey of becoming an “instant family” has been a long road. One we never saw coming. A road God choose us for, a road with many ups and downs. A road that has lead us here...fundraising for a service dog for our youngest girl, Journey. For her privacy I won’t go into details but I will share a little on a broad scope: Journey had a hard first 2 almost 3 years of her life. She came to us at almost 3 years of age with severe RAD, anxiety, failure to thrive and PTSD. Over the years the RAD has become a thing of the past. And the failure to thrive is a distant memory. But still lingering is the debilitating struggle of severe anxiety and PTSD. As Journey has been growing and maturing these last few years through the recommendations of her therapist God has placed it on our hearts to seek alternative treatments for her in conjunction with therapy: a service dog to help her cope and be a constant companion is where the prayers have lead us. Fast forward to a more concentrated 6-9 months of research and praying that has lead us to a unique way of acquiring such a special helper. There are very few organizations that offer psychiatric service dogs for kids under 15. And the ones who do, have wait lists miles long. We applied and applied and applied. We are waitlisted and have also been told to reapply in six months. So, more research and more prayer happened. And it landed us in a two phase plan with two organizations. Phase one: The training company will choose the best dog for the job. With their expertise they will travel to wherever they need to to select the dog that has the best temperament. Phase two: we have chosen Compass Key to do advanced service dog training. Compass Key will fly to Euro Goldendoodles organization in NC to evaluate the dogs we have chosen as possible candidates for the work. CK will then take the best pup for the job for the duration of the advanced service dog training. After the training is complete (about 6-12 months) we will head to WA for two weeks of handler training/bonding.But we can’t do this alone. We need help. More specifically we need to raise funds for this EXPENSIVE alternative in her treatment. I am confident that God will use each and every person who reads this to help bring the right service dog home. Phase one cost for Euro doodles is $20,000. This sum is for all vet bills (spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and health testing). It also covers all the basic and advanced obedience training. As well as boarding fees.Phase two: cost for Compass Key is $15,000. This includes travel expenses for the evaluation, service dog training, and boarding. As well as ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) certification. We may also be seeking ADI (Assistance Dog International) accreditation at a later time. And lastly there may be extra expenses such as travel and stay for Journey and I when we go for the two week training. We are giving ourselves a $3,000 cushion.That’s a whopping total of $38,000 which happens to be the exact cost of some of the organizations we have applied to.I know many will say that’s insane! Insane or not I ask you to look past the hefty price tag and see all the amazing things these EXTENSIVELY trained dogs can do to change a person’s life. Every cent donated will be spent on bringing this dog home for Journey. If you can’t financially help can you please share this?
