Support For Carl "Animal" Cochran
My name is Jessi. I am a friend of Catherine and her 3 amazing kids. “Carl, 15, a freshman athlete at John Marshall High School, was in a bad mountain biking accident coming down GVP hill road. He was life flighted to Ruby Hospital in Morgantown. He is in the PICU in critical but stable condition. He is intubated for healing and heavily sedated so he is not responding at this time. He has a broken collar bone and shoulder and a possible orbital fracture but too much swelling to tell at this point. His scans have remained stable and we are hoping for a full recovery. We have a long road ahead of us but it isn't anything we can't handle. As I, and many of you may know, an extended stay in a hospital is so expensive. Not just the medical bills, but just trying to manage life while there. Carl’s mom, Catherine, is a mom of 3 young kids. As any mom would, Catherine will not leave Carl’s side. This will mean an extended absence from work. Sometimes you can’t get right into the Ronald McDonald house. It can be a wait of anywhere from a few days, to a few weeks. On top of that there’s the cost of food and gas money as well traveling back and forth to still help out with her 2 other children. LIKE ANY MOM WOULD HAVE TO. This would put a financial strain on anyone. The support and prayers from the community thus far has been amazing. I am putting this gofundme together just for the extra needed support that will come. Carl is a fighter, because he was raised by a fighter. He, THEY, will get thru this.Thank you in advance for your generosity❤️ Continue to Pray for this wonderful young man and his family+ Read More
UPDATE: Day 16- We will be moving to Rehab today at Encompass Health (still in Morgantown close to Ruby). He has made some amazing progress- he walked the whole hallway, up and down stairs and bent to grab things off the floor. He told the Care Management team- he will walk out of the hospital and ride with his mom to the rehab. They need to save the ambulance for those who really need them. He still has some struggles with things but we are sooooooo much farther than they ever expected. He has been called a MIRACLE by many of the doctors and nurses here (he hates being called that but after what he has went through- that truly is the only word for it.) We have been blessed with our care here at Ruby and are very sad to leave but he is on a mission! #CarlStrong
Carl is extubated!!!! He was out soaking up some sunshine today. He is doing well but still has a lot of healing and recovering to do. Keep the prayers coming!!!!
