Help Cancer Survivor Get Life Back

Donation protected

Hello everyone,
My name is Brandon Rogers,  in late 2014 at the age of 33 I was suddenly diagnosed with Stage 2 esophageal cancer. After several months of radiation and chemo, I was able to have the surgery to remove the tumor. As they were removing the tumor, 1/3 of my stomach and 1/3 of my esophagus, they also found and removed 13 lymph nodes, eight of which had microscopic signs of cancer which my doctors, fearing that I would have a relapse immediately decided to do genetic testing and hit me with what is called preventive chemo in hopes that my cancer would not return.

I am so happy and blessed to let everyone know that when September 2015 came around I was medically declared in remission and I continue the long process of healing from the treatments, surgery and immense changes to my daily life. As I was in remission I started to notice significant problems with my teeth. As one tooth would break and or chip another tooth would follow suit simply from chewing, even on spaghetti. I ignored the problem at first but it got worse and worse as time progressed.

I ask myself daily “how do you rewind to the beginning, after four and a half years of hardship?”. I was elated when I was medically cleared to go back to work. I remember the day clearly, I walked back into my previous employer and asked if I could have my job back? They said “absolutely, when can you start?” I said “Immediately!”. Later that same day I had a dental appointment which ended up in more devasting news and another long road of letdowns. The dentist informed me that due to all of the medical treatments, mostly chemo, there was severe damage to essentially all of my remaining teeth. He said, “Due to the damage already done the only two things I can recommend is full extraction of all remaining teeth and getting dentures or implants”. I was devastated!

I thought at worst a crown or root canal. On February 20th, 2019, I had all of my chipped and brittle teeth extracted, 32 to be exact, and had dentures made immediately for me.  I knew after waking up from surgery the dentures they fitted did not fit at all, especially after falling out into my lap. After numerous visits to the dentist office trying to get the staff and dentist to help me with correct fitting, I left the office time again feeling hopeless about having my smile back.

It has been 4 years of highs and lows and I am forever grateful to be alive! Every time I feel I am starting to get back on my feet another complication presents itself. I have lost my 7-year relationship and stepchild who both were by my side through my battle with cancer, I lost my home, I lost my teeth, a simple smile we all take for granted.

I've exhausted all avenues that I can with my insurance there's nothing more they can do for me even though there hasn't been much that they have done, but I am asking for any help you can provide. I am trying to raise money to actually go to a different dentist that can get me proper fitting dentures, as my current dentist proves he is unable to help me. Anything that you can give is greatly appreciated! Having a working set of teeth is so essential to a healthy life and overall well-being, I cannot begin to tell you how important this is to me. I've lost more weight because I haven't been able to eat a lot of foods. Thank you.
