Transplant Assistance Needed

Donation protected
Dewayne was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease in 1997. He went on dialysis and received a transplant at UAB in 1999. He ended up going back on dialysis in 2011. He got another gift of a transplant at Vanderbilt last Friday, April 19th. The transplant is working great. It just isn’t functioning 100%. It is just being slow at “waking up”. It is producing urine and keeping the electrolytes in check. The creatinine, which is what gives them an idea of the function of the transplant. It shouldn’t be any higher than 0.8 and his level is still at 17. Which is why he is still in the hospital. They have said eventually it will, it just may take up to 3 weeks. Two months ago, he lost his Alabama Medicaid due to my income. He still has his Medicare for now. We were told today that he will lose his disability income in one year. Then after three years post transplant, he will lose the Medicare. Since we don’t have supplemental insurance, we have a $2500 copayment from the surgery. Also, we found out today that the copayments on his anti rejection drugs will be around $250 per month. Also, we have to drive back and forth to Nashville once a week for the first two months. Then, it should drop down to once a month after that. So, needless to say we are worried but we know we are blessed beyond measure. I know there will be a way. We hate asking for assistance but it is the only way I know of right now.
