Roxie's Recovery

Donation protected

10 years ago, I picked out from a litter of chocolate labs, the littlest one with the tiniest nose, and green eyes. I should say we picked each other actually. I saw her and the second I sat down she climbed into my lap. I knew right then she was the one. Little did I know this goodest girl would be with me through the toughest and the most wonderful times. That little pup is my girl, Roxie- now at a more mature age is often known as Roxanne (thank you Sean). Roxie has recently had surgery on a growth that was originally diagnosed as an abscess. This growth was removed and biopsied. The biopsy showed the growth was malignant and the thing grew back fast and with a vengeance. The surgery was on March 10, and by the follow up appointment two weeks later on March 24, there was already a bump in it's place. By April 10th it had doubled and by April 12th it had tripled. Dr. Carlos, the vet who originally took out the tumor, even said he had never seen a tumor grow so quickly. I have made many phone calls and been to numerous vet appointments the past month and recently got an estimate for her to get a partial mandiblectomy to remove the part of her jaw where the cancer resides. I was reassured that dogs usually recover well and can live a normal food-filled life which is important because my girl loves to eat. I am still awaiting the results of a lymph node biospy to see if it is localized or has spread. The tumor is now the size of 2 golf balls and I can't stand to watch my girl suffer. This surgery is estimated between $4000 and $8000. Despite the severity of her tumor, Roxie is still the goodest girl she has always been. She is full of energy, jumps in excitement to go outside, and still begs at my feet in the kitchen despite the difficulty she faces when eating. The vet said "that it's just in her personality to not show pain, keep wagging her tail and be friendly. She's just a good dog." I am still greeted everyday when I come home and it breaks my heart to see my vibrant dog be affected by this horrible disease taking over her jaw. It is now I ask for your kindness and generosity to help Roxie's recovery. Thank you to family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers for hearing our story and considering a donation.
