Performance Team Swing Kids

The Swing Kids organization was started seven years ago in a small, rural town in the Nevada desert, giving local youth an incredibly positive outlet. Several teams perform around the community and across the country, taking home national titles in ballroom competition.

This year the Performance Team began focusing on Lindy Hop, the greatest form of swing dancing ever conceived. While we have aggressively progressed in our skill level, we still have much to learn. We are planning to attend the Boston Tea Party, an annual swing event that brings together under one roof some of the greatest dancers and teachers in the world. Our team will have the opportunity to participate in workshops throughout the day, then practice what we've learned in social dances throughout the evening. In addition, we will be able to compete in various dance competitions. 

After the Tea Party, we plan to explore Boston, witnessing first hand the history most students from Nevada only get to read about in books.

We have been working on various fundraisers and have succeeded in covering the cost of lodging throughout the course of our six day trip. We will also be working at the event, which has helped us cover the cost of the event itself. We have one last barrier to overcome: airfare. This will cost an estimated $5,000 for the ten of us plus our coach to fly to Boston. We need your help! The opportunity to go to Boston is once in a lifetime for the youth in our area. More than half of the students in our district are on free lunch-- in other words, we simply don't have the means to cover the entire cost ourselves. So we continue working toward our goal-- and we are so close!
