Pls help Diego Rivera - my doorman whose family lost their home in Brighton Beach, BK during Hurricane Sandy

While everyone in SoPo was on the brink of breakdown by the end of the wk, one of the doormen in my bldg in noho, Diego, never mentioned a word about how he hadn't been back to his family's home in Brighton Beach Brooklyn in 6 days. Instead, he listened to everyone complain, and told everyone walking in and out that everything will be ok. Now on Sunday, as things are more or less back to normal, I stopped to ask him how he's been and he broke down in tears. His home was completely ruined, the saltwater destroyed everything, and the reason he hadn't gone home all week was because he couldn't actually get back there. When he finally made it back yesterday, he had to break a window to get in, and the cops greeted him at gunpoint thinking he was a looter. He's still waiting for FEMA assistance, who says it'll be another 3-7 days till they reach him.
