I-Believe-In-Barbara-Campaign!
The below text is added to the original Page Message:
"I openly admit I am new at
this "crowd funding" venue. There are
many sites to choose from to help individual causes. I was led to this site, GoFundMe and I
thought there was a deadline to the fundraising and must have inadvertently
read instruction from other "crowd funding" sites.
With that being said, I have
received phone calls, emails and just face to face communication from friends
and family, like you letting me know they still would like to contribute and
aid in supporting the I-Believe-in-Barbara-Campaign. In lieu of what has transpired with Hurricane
Sandy and all of its challenges and your willingness to support and lend a hand,
I am extending my campaign to continue to raise funds."
Dear
Family,
Reaching
out to anyone to ask for help has never been one of my strong suits, I always
took the stance to do it all myself and keep moving.
2012 marks
Sugarfoots' 20th year in business. I remember as clearly as if it
was yesterday, when my sister in-law Edna, told my mom about an old clothing
place in Harrisburg, PA, where I grew up.
We went there looking for "free"
fabrics. I remember climbing on top of
mountains of clothing searching for materials.
After finding a few good pieces, my mom washed and pressed them. I was able to cut out the patterns and make
the very first Sugarfoots dolls. I was officially in business!
Taking from
the marketing skills while watching African women on a trip I took to Ghana,
West Africa so many years ago, and these women sold anything from nuts and
bolts to cassava leaves in parcels on their heads, I quickly warmed to this
idea of being right in front of the face of potential buyers. I loaded my dolls in my African basket, (I did not have the skills of carrying them
on my head!) With a daily trek on the DC metro I had a "captured" audience
I could pitch and for the next 8-years of my commute, with the calluses on my
hands to prove it; I carried that 9-pound basket "“ daily!
Fast
forward 20 years later, it's time to move Sugarfoots into the 21st
Century. A troubled marriage, enriching
motherhood and the competing challenges of being a home maker has placed
Sugarfoots, by default, into a steadily growing side business, something I
never intended. This is why I am seeking your financial support to help move
Sugarfoots forward to the e-commerce arena and say goodbye to the grassroots
arena! Please help me launch and kick start the
I-Believe-In-Barbara-Campaign
If you
believe in me, I am asking you to give $10,
$15, $25, or any amount you can offer to help me do this.
I need to
raise $6,000 by October 30, 2012
in order to be competitive on Facebook,
Twitter and E-Commerce. With this
money I will reconstruct Sugarfoots' website and introduce
e-commerce
so that people can buy their dolls online. I will also employ a social media
manager to enhance Sugarfoots' Facebook and twitter sites work to grow sales. I
see this side of the business being self financing in 3/6 months.
All these
activities will take Sugarfoots to the next level where it belongs and not
as a side business!
If you
believe in me, as I hope you do, help me make Sugarfoots the next household
word and become a part of this extraordinary journey! With your support of just $10.00 or $15.00
dollars, you will receive a Sugarfoots autographed heart warming collectible
poster!
With just $25.00 or more, you will not only receive the Sugarfoots poster, your name
will be included on Sugarfoots
Acknowledgement page in Sugarfoots next book and a doll will be sold, named
in your honor and your name will appear on the Hall of Fame Page on Sugarfoots website!
For those of you who would like to pay by phone and I would just adore hearing from you, please call me on the toll free number
1-800-354-2909.
Any amount
is greatly appreciated. There's one last
thing I ask, if you could please share my story; I need ALL the support you can
muster! I will not let you down and I thank you for believing in me.
With the
very best of my love,
Barb, Barbara, Babelle
