Help us get to Guatemala for volunteer work

Donation protected
Thanks so much for all of the contributions. We have now made the trip to Guatemala and it was fantastic meeting with Max and others from RIOS Guatemala. The page remains active (only because I don't know how to cancel it!) but we are not expecting any further donations and will not offer any rewards. If you want to find out more about RIOS Guatemala or donate to the cause, please visit their website at www.riosguatemala.com.

Thanks,
Neil and Lacey January 2014

This coming January (2014) we have the incredible opportunity to volunteer in Guatemala where we will be re-united with some great Guatemalans that saved our lives, literally, when we were last down there. We also will be able to contribute to the initial stages of an incredible Guatemalan association that is being formed by our Guatemalan friends.

Associacion RIOS Guatemala (ARG) fosters the enjoyment, preservation and restoration of Guatemala's wild river ecosystems primarily through sponsoring responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well being of the local people. Our Guatemalan friend Max, the visionary and driving force behind ARG, has invited us down to help him bring his dream into reality.

Through our website and blogs, we will share our adventures to generate interest in ecotourism in Guatemala and raise awareness about the environmental, societal, and economic value of the wild rivers of Guatemala and the threats facing these rivers and the communities that live along them from hydroelectric, mining, and other interests.

You can follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/neil.nikirk) and (https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/lacey.anderson.75470) or check in with our blogs at www.golightoutdoors.com and www.nocoolers.com

The only drawback to this plan is funding! To participate, we have to make our way down to Guatemala and be prepared to stay for at least a month. We plan on driving down with our truck and living in it at the base camp. For us, the distance is over 2500 miles and that will take a lot of fuel; not to mention the food required to feed us along the way and while in Guatemala. Our goal is to raise $1500 to help cover the cost of travel. All funding through this website will be used solely to offset our travel costs to Guatemala (and back).

We thank you for any amount you can contribute.
