The MGA Scholarship Scheme

Donation protected

I think it is important to point out a few things right from the start!  We are a private school.  We offer a private performing arts education to students between 4 years old to HND level that is second to none in the United Kingdom and The MGA Academy is a "˜for profit' organization.

The very idea that we should be holding fund-raising events seems a little at odds with these facts but please let us explain!

The reason you can see this web page is because we need to raise money for the MGA Scholarship Scheme.   I have a confession to make - I was a scholarship student at Drama School!  Had I not been a scholarship student I would not have been a student at all and we would not be here today trying to get money out of individuals such as yourselves!

Our full-time fees at MGA at £6000 per year.  Our part time school demands £1850 and our Stage Academies for younger students require £855 per year.  Though this is a long way from the £15,000.00  that I had to pay in London, it is still a sizable amount of money for parents and young people to find in order to attend The MGA Academy as a student.

Why on earth do people pay these fees when there are many drama groups, classes and indeed so called full-time performing arts courses running across the country that charge no fees?  I'm not the right person to ask this question because though I know a very good answer, I would cause a stir if I said it out loud and in public!  My line will remain as always, "we offer a product of exceptional quality and this is recognised by our students, their parents and the professional Performing Arts industry. That is why they want to come to us."

How do they pay for it?  Many of our students are in a position to pay their fees. Many struggle. Many simply cannot.

That is why we run a scholarship scheme in the name of our late friend and Musical Theatre Performer Ross Baker that costs MGA £15,750.00 per year, and a selection of other funded places that combined cost The MGA Academy of Performing Arts over £30,000.00 per year.

This enables us to support those students who show the talent and determination but for whom a private education is an impossible dream.

We take our responsibility to nurture the huge potential of our young people here in Edinburgh incredibly seriously. We simply cannot allow financial constraints to prevent our students or those young people we often see performing in Scotland from reaching their potential and the opportunity for one of the most fulfilling careers in the world.

Someone, (I don't know who) paid for my private education along with my wonderful parents.

The devastating news is that MGA cannot continue to support young people without asking for help.

We are now asking for your help.
