Medical treatment for Dorian Maier

Dorian is a senior in high school in Rapid City South Dakota. He has a passion for acting and singing. He has participated in community theater programs out side of school and has had a job out side of school since he was 14. On November 7th he had a bad accident while on stage helping move a prop with some other students. The events leading up to the accident are not important. But Dorian ended up stepping backwards and fell over 6ft into the orchestra pit. He landed on his back, onto the stairs with most of the force coming down on his left side. He sustained a dislocated left shoulder, and internal bleeding from two ruptured Renal arteries going into his kidneys. He spent 2 days in ICU and 3.5 days on a regular floor. While in the hospital he developed an infection and had some other minor complications. He was discharged on Nov 12th. Two days later we find out he has pneumonia. His health was seeming to be improving but he was still complaining of back pain. More tests were ran on Nov 22nd. This time his tests showed he had blood in his urine once again but no sign of infection. An ultrasound was scheduled for Nov 27th. We get a call Nov 29th that the ultrasound shows problems. His left kidney is dilated 6 cm larger then it was the day the injury happened. That means the kidney is producing urine. But the urine is getting backed up into the kidney causing it to get enlarged. They want him in for a CT scan right away the next morning. Late afternoon of Nov 30th we receive a personal call from his Urologist. He explains that Dorian needs to have a major surgery to reroute the tube that goes from the kidney to the bladder. That there is still some urine flow. But it’s restricted. The ruptured renal arteries stopped blood flow to a part of his kidney and there is kidney damage where the tube leaves the kidney. He explained the surgery has to happen because if left untreated it would cause complete kidney failure. The problem is they are unable to preform this detailed of a surgery anywhere close to where we live. The Dr said he is consulting with other urologists and other larger hospitals to try and find the best place for the surgery to happen. And he would get back to us. Last evening he didn’t have details of when or where for us. But we are looking at a minimum of a 7 hour drive with a maximum of around a 14 hour drive to get him to the nearest big hospital that could do this surgery. We don’t know details as of right now. We only know we have to get him somewhere bigger and better as soon as they tell us to go.
We need help though. I’m a single mother of two teen boys. Everything up to this point has depleted most of my resources. His insurance so far has covered the medical side of things. But I don’t have the funds to get him out of state to a bigger hospital. I don’t have the money for the cost of the trip and possible extended stay, along with the bills still coming in at home. We truly need help right now so Dorian can receive the medical treatment he needs. Thank you from the family of Dorian Maier
