Fire at 165 E. Hastings

Donation protected
Last night around 10 PM onward the building next door to 165 East Hastings caught fire which eventually spread leaving both buildings damaged beyond repair. This left many Downtown EastSide community members, artists, residents, and businesses in a tough spot.

One artist lost his entire body of work that was going to be used for an upcoming show, as well as the supplies and other pieces, another community member lost their custom built furniture as well as a few thousand in power tools and materials. Many of the folks who used these spaces did not have insurance to cover their belongings in their spaces. This is a terrible loss for many of us since this was a great space for shows, and community based initiatives. There are so many others who have been impacted and have lost so many things invaluable including the building itself. This will impact the art community of the DTES and leave artists in a precarious position moving forward since it is rare to find affordable spaces solely dedicated to creating in the city of Vancouver.

The gofundme will go towards those impacted by the fire at 165 E. Hastings. The amount we receive will be divided up between those who lost their belongings in the building which can go towards whatever they choose.

We hope you will either contribute or even share. This gofundme was created by community members in the DTES to support those who have been impacted. Updates will be posted to when monies have been distributed to those impacted.
