The Peace Chest

Peace may set us free, but it does not come for free.  The particular peace for my family, in the resolution of a difficult divorce, has particular costs.

Peace is less costly than ongoing hostilities between a former husband and his former wife.  In our case, while we may be former spouses, we are very much present parents, which makes peace all the more important. These funds make up one significant part of a set of exchanges that will finally bring our divorce to an amicable resolution.  Specifically, they will make it possible for my children to remain rooted in their childhood home, and at the same time, the funds will go toward securing their new home in their new lives up north.  Politicians raise money to attack each other; the deeper their "war chest," the more they can break down the other guy.  This money is for my family's "peace chest."  The deeper, the better.  Not for breaking down, but for building up.
