Francis Nimukunda, is originally from Uganda. In early 2000 he went to Costa Rica with a scholarship as part of a student program of EARTH University. Since graduating in December 2003, has been working in Uganda. He first worked for about five years in the Agricultural Research Institute of the University of Makerere.
Nowadays, he is part and form of a great family project: Rwabuto Memorial School at Nyakitunda County in Uganda, a very rural community and close to a family farm.
The school is named in memory of his father, Rwabuto Fabiano, a primary school teacher and farmer.
Before the school was founded in 2007 county residents who wanted their children to receive a good education had to send them to urban schools, and this would lead to problems such as:
"¢ Tuition fees, maintenance and transport extremely expensive and inaccessible for low-income
"¢ Favored rural migration and also at a very early age children undermined the people's livelihood
"¢ Urban schools do not focus on rural issues and this made many children leave primary school
Rwabuto Memorial School opened in 2007 with 118 children who could attend only I, II and III grades. Today it has a population of 600 children. They hope to complete their construction by 2016 and is hoped to be self-sufficient project from 2017.
In addition to keeping the legacy of his family, Francis founded the Rwabuto Memorial School with the following objectives:
"¢ Bringing services quality education to the community Nyakitunda
"¢ Provide comprehensive education at the primary level that takes into account the challenges of the communities near Nyakitunda
"The success of this project is based on the spirit in the team that I introduced in my family. I am grateful to EARTH University for providing a training that is unique in the world " Francis Nimukunda
Any support can make a difference.
At this time, Francis hopes to implement a project of an estate of tomatoes, which can have very specific goals in a short time (about 5 months), which could give sustainability to the project and help more and more children, which may:
"¢ Increase production of tomatoes to help feed children in school
"¢ Produce their funds to give support to the scholarship program for children attending school
"¢ Demonstrate to local farmers how to produce vegetables, and different water use technologies, this being a scarce resource in the area.
The current annual cost per student is $ 220 USD. A complete help for a child could be a contribution to enormous dimensions, however, if his chances do not allow the annual contribution, any help is welcome.
